ISLAMABAD, Oct 01 (APP): The Developing Eight (D-8) Organization for Economic Cooperation on Thursday felicitated the government and people of Nigeria on the country’s 66th Independence Day, acknowledging its contributions to regional cooperation, economic development and international peace.
In a message issued on the occasion, the D-8 Organization extended warm congratulations to the leadership, government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, marking the anniversary of its independence on October 1, 1960.
The organization said Nigeria’s independence marked the successful culmination of its people’s struggle for self-governance and provided an opportunity to celebrate the country’s journey and growing role in world affairs.
Highlighting Nigeria’s demographic strength, economic potential, cultural diversity and commitment to regional and international cooperation, the D-8 said the country continued to make valuable contributions to peace and development in Africa and beyond.
It also acknowledged Nigeria’s pivotal role as a founding member of the D-8, particularly in advancing the organization’s vision of closer economic cooperation, regional integration and shared prosperity among member states.
The D-8 SME Center and the D-8 Health and Social Protection Programme (D-8 HSP), both based in Abuja, were cited as visible manifestations of Nigeria’s contribution to the organization’s objectives.
