Experts stress mentorship for young scientists
ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (APP): Speakers at a seminar held at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University on Wednesday called for stronger collaboration among scientific academies, universities and research institutions to support young researchers, expand opportunities for innovation and prepare a new generation of scientific leaders.
The seminar, titled “From Young Scientists to Scientific Leaders: The Role of Academies and Mentorship”, brought together vice chancellors, senior academics, scientists, young researchers and students to discuss the importance of mentorship, institutional cooperation and professional development within the scientific community.
Vice Chancellor of Federal Urdu University Prof Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari, who was the chief guest and among the key speakers, addressed a session on “Strengthening Connections Across Scientific Academies: Opportunities for Collaboration”.
Dr Shinwari emphasised the need to establish stronger links among scientific academies, universities and research institutions across Pakistan to create wider opportunities for research, innovation and scientific leadership.
He said young scientists required proper guidance, mentorship and opportunities to work with experienced researchers to strengthen their skills, broaden their professional exposure and advance their careers.
He noted that scientific academies could serve as important platforms for connecting emerging researchers with national and international scientific networks, while also facilitating joint research and institutional partnerships.
Dr Shinwari said closer cooperation between universities and scientific institutions could open new avenues for research and innovation and help young scientists develop the experience and leadership skills required to contribute effectively to the scientific community.
The seminar was organised by the Department of Biosciences at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University in collaboration with the Pakistan Young Academy. Participants discussed ways to strengthen mentorship programmes, encourage collaboration and create a more supportive environment for young researchers seeking to build careers in science and research.
