ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (APP): The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has clarified that the recognition of medical and dental colleges is granted strictly in accordance with the applicable legal and regulatory framework and prescribed standards.
According to council spokesperson, the PM&DC has approved 1,400 seats in public sector medical and dental colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Islamabad Capital Territory and Punjab in view of the national need to increase opportunities for meritorious students.
The initiative aims to facilitate access to medical education for students from underprivileged regions and help prevent deserving students from seeking medical education opportunities abroad.
He said the PM&DC is committed to facilitating students by promoting access to affordable and quality medical and dental education within Pakistan, enabling them to pursue their professional education in the country rather than seeking opportunities abroad.
He added the impression that private-sector medical colleges have been permitted more seats than public-sector medical colleges is incorrect.
He said the council applies the same regulatory standards to medical and dental institutions, irrespective of their public or private sector status. These standards are intended to ensure quality education, adequate academic and clinical facilities, and patient safety.
He said the council will make efforts to facilitate students and maintain the quality and standards of medical and dental education in Pakistan.
