LUMHS holds workshop on rabies prevention, treatment
HYDERABAD, Sep 30 (APP): The department of infectious diseases of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro organized a workshop on rabies on the directives of the vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Ikram Din Ujjan.
The workshop aimed to create awareness and provide practical training on rabies prevention, timely treatment, necessary precautions after an animal bite and the proper use of vaccines.
According to the LUMHS spokesperson, the dean faculty of medicine and allied Prof. Dr. Imran Ali Shaikh attended the workshop as chief guest, while director LUMHS health services hospital Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Behan participated as guest of honor.
Addressing the participants, Prof. Dr. Imran Ali Shaikh stressed the importance of taking timely measures after an animal bite. He said medical staff should have the necessary knowledge and training to provide better care to patients suffering from animal bites.
Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Behan highlighted the importance of creating public awareness about rabies prevention and reducing incidents of dog bites.
Head of the department of infectious diseases and Assistant Professor Dr. Sugandh Memon delivered a detailed lecture on rabies. He briefed participants about the early symptoms of the disease, wound cleaning, vaccination and necessary treatment following an animal bite.
The workshop also included practical training on the use of rabies vaccine and Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG), an important component of post-exposure treatment. The training was conducted by Dr. Sugandh Memon, Dr. Imtiaz Hussain, Dr. Abdul Rahim Memon and Dr. Muhammad Saleh Memon.
At the conclusion of the program, Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Behan distributed certificates among the participants and faculty members.
