Law Minister chairs cabinet committee meetings on legal matters

PESHAWAR, Sep 30 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Law Aftab Alam on Wednesday chaired important meetings of the Cabinet Standing Committee and related cabinet committees, which reviewed in detail judicial orders’ implementation, the merger of former Khassadars and Levies personnel into the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, sub-judice court cases and land acquisition payments for development projects.
The meetings were attended by Chief Minister’s Adviser on Finance Muzammil Aslam, Advocate General Shah Faisal Atmankhel, Secretary Law, Secretary P&D, representatives of PHC and officials of the Home and Tribal Affairs, Police, Law, C&W departments, PKHA and other relevant departments.
In the Cabinet Standing Committee meeting, a compliance report regarding the Peshawar High Court’s decision of April 16, 2024, Writ Petition No. 4642-P/2023 and COC No. 313-P/2024 was reviewed. The court decision pertains to the merger of former Khassadars and Levies personnel of Mohmand district into the KP Police.
The meeting deliberated on effective implementation of the court orders in line with the prescribed legal procedure and taking forward the relevant matters according to rules and regulations.
In a separate cabinet committee meeting, legal matters related to Writ Petition No. 8068/2026, Raza Khan Safi versus Province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, clubbed with Writ Petition No. 7110-P/2026, were reviewed. Officials briefed the participants on the legal aspects of the case and the future course of action to be adopted by the government.
The issue of payment of decretal amount regarding land acquired for Mardan Ring Road (N.W.E Bypass) also came under discussion.
Participants reviewed the financial liabilities related to land acquisition, court orders and relevant legal and administrative requirements, while deliberating on various aspects of settling the government dues in accordance with the law and available resources.
On the occasion, Aftab Alam directed that matters related to judicial decisions and legal requirements be ensured practical progress with clear timelines rather than remaining confined to mere official paperwork.
He said effective liaison among relevant departments was essential in judicial matters involving the government so that legal complications and unnecessary delays could be avoided.
He further directed that financial and legal matters of land acquired for development projects be taken forward in line with relevant laws, court decisions and legal vetting of the Law Department, while ensuring due protection of the legitimate rights of affectees and the public interest in accordance with legal requirements.
The Law Minister said rule of law, respect for judicial orders and transparency in public affairs were fundamental principles for the government, and directed all relevant departments to ensure serious and timely progress on pending matters within their domain.
