KP CM calls for coordinated strategy to ensure lasting peace

PESHAWAR, Sep 28 (APP): Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Monday called for a coordinated and comprehensive strategy involving all relevant stakeholders to ensure lasting peace and stability in the province.

Addressing a meeting on law and order, the CM said the people, police of KP and armed forces had rendered tremendous sacrifices for peace, with more than 80,000 people having laid down their lives for the country.

He said maintaining peace was a collective responsibility and stressed the need for close coordination among the provincial government, administration, police and all other relevant stakeholders to formulate an effective policy.

Sohail Afridi said the provincial government had allocated additional resources to strengthen the police, including Rs35 billion from the development budget, while the police budget was increased by 103 percent in the financial year 2026 to enhance its operational capacity.

He said work was underway to further strengthen police manpower and capacity, improve the Special Branch and equip the police with modern weapons and other essential equipment.

The CM said the government would continue taking practical measures to strengthen security institutions and improve their capacity to maintain peace across the province.

He said the provincial government had also raised its voice through public gatherings and consultations in different districts against the return of violence and for the restoration of lasting peace.

Afridi said a new comprehensive policy should be formulated after taking all stakeholders into confidence, adding that effective implementation of the proposed strategy could help establish peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within 100 days.

He stressed that peace and stability were essential for the progress and development of the province as well as the country, and called for sustained and coordinated efforts to achieve this objective.
