LAHORE, Sep 28 (APP): The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) on Monday announced a special facility to simplify the issuance of Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) for both married and unmarried women across the country.
According to a spokesperson, under this initiative, women over 18 years of age who do not possess a birth certificate will be able to obtain an ID card without presenting one, provided they meet specific criteria within a designated timeframe.
According to a NADRA statement, married women can now apply for a CNIC based on a computerized ‘Nikah Nama’ (marriage certificate). However, their applications will require biometric verification from either the husband or one of the parents.
For unmarried women aged 18 and above who lack birth certificates, NADRA has made it mandatory to possess the valid CNIC of a parent, brother, or sister for registration.
An official stated that the primary objective of this measure is to streamline the document registration process and alleviate difficulties faced by women in acquiring basic identification documents.
