Dera Ismail Khan , Sep 27 (APP):The Regional Blood Centre (RBC) Dera Ismail Khan has intensified its campaign to promote voluntary blood donation among students through a series of awareness sessions, blood donation camps, institutional visits, coordination meetings and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with educational institutions, aimed at developing a sustainable pool of voluntary blood donors and providing practical training to students in blood donation, screening and blood banking.
Under the guidance of Manager Regional Blood Centre Dr Muhammad Rizwan Rajput, the centre has engaged colleges, universities and health education institutions to create awareness about the importance of donating blood for patients suffering from thalassemia, cancer and other medical emergencies.
As part of the initiative, Health Education Officer Sajjad Ahmad Khan Mahsud conducted a blood donation awareness session at Government Degree College No. 1, Dera Ismail Khan, where students were sensitised to the importance of voluntary blood donation and its role in saving precious human lives. The awareness activity was followed by a blood donation camp in collaboration with the college administration, during which a large number of students voluntarily donated blood.
Principal Government Degree College No. 1 Professor Abid Shah, college administration and students extended full cooperation for the camp.
The Regional Blood Centre has also launched an extensive outreach programme involving educational and health institutions across the district. Social Mobilizer Waheedullah Khan Marwat, held meetings with heads and representatives of different institutions to discuss arrangements for awareness sessions, voluntary blood donation camps, student participation and institutional cooperation.
During a meeting with Dr Raheel, Principal of the Polytechnic Institute, representatives of the Social Welfare Department and officials of Al-Qaseer Institute of Health Sciences, detailed discussions were held on promoting blood donation among students, organising blood donation camps and conducting awareness sessions. The possibilities of signing MoUs between the institutions and the Regional Blood Centre were also discussed.
The participants also deliberated on providing students with four to six weeks of practical training at the Regional Blood Centre in areas related to blood donation, blood screening, blood banking and other relevant technical fields.
Waheedullah Khan also visited PIMT College, where he met Principal Dr Arif Mahmood and Vice Principal Dr Wali-ur-Rehman. The meeting focused on arrangements for a blood donation awareness session and a donation camp. The college administration assured cooperation and expressed readiness to facilitate the activities for students.
He also visited Khyber Medical University (KMU) DIKhan campus , where he met Assistant Director Institute of Health Sciences Nauman and Lecturer/Demonstrator Dr Asadullah. The officials discussed arrangements for a blood donation camp and awareness session at the institution and assured their cooperation in promoting voluntary blood donation among students.
The Regional Blood Centre also expanded its institutional collaboration through an MoU with University of Agriculture Dera Ismail Khan. Health Education Officer Sajjad Ahmad Khan Mahsud, signed the MoU with the university administration.
Under the agreement, awareness sessions on blood donation will be organised for students of Agriculture University to highlight the importance of voluntary blood donation and encourage greater student participation in blood donation activities. The initiative will also provide students with four to six weeks of practical training at the Regional Blood Centre in blood donation, blood screening, blood banking and related areas.
The training component is aimed at providing students with practical exposure to blood bank operations while strengthening their understanding of safe blood donation and transfusion-related services.
The Regional Blood Centre has further strengthened its collaboration with private health education institutions through an MoU with Apex Institute of Medical Sciences. Manager Regional Blood Centre Dr Muhammad Rizwan Rajput visited the institute and held a meeting with its Director Naqab Khan, during which the two institutions signed an MoU for blood donation awareness and training programmes for students.
Following the agreement, Social Mobilizer Waheedullah Khan conducted an awareness activity for students regarding voluntary blood donation. A large number of students participated in the blood donation activity under the supervision of Dr Rida, Women Medical Officer.
The MoU also provides for four to six weeks of practical training for Apex students at the Regional Blood Centre. Upon successful completion of the training, participating students will be awarded certificates.
The Regional Blood Centre has expressed its intention to expand such institutional partnerships and sign further MoUs with public and private educational institutions to establish a broader network for voluntary blood donation, awareness and practical training.
The centre has appealed to students, educational institutions, traders, civil society, religious scholars, district administration, youth, members of the armed and security forces and citizens from all walks of life to actively participate in voluntary blood donation activities.
Officials of the Regional Blood Centre emphasised that donated blood is a precious public resource and can help save the lives of thalassemia and cancer patients as well as those requiring urgent transfusions following accidents, emergencies and other critical medical conditions.
