Twelve people, including a Customs official, were martyred and 35 others injured when a powerful blast targeted the Aman Mela joint checkpost in Darazinda area of Dera Ismail Khan on Saturday.

Dera Ismail Khan, Sep 26 (APP): Twelve people, including a Customs official, were martyred and 35 others injured when a powerful blast targeted the Aman Mela joint checkpost in Darazinda area of Dera Ismail Khan on Saturday.
According to Regional Police Officer Dera Ismail Khan Ghulam Mubashir Maken, no personnel of the Pakistan Army or police were among those martyred in the blast, while the remaining victims were civilians.
He said the deceased included nine men, two women and a child.
The explosion occurred at the Aman Mela joint checkpost near Darazinda on the Dera Ismail Khan-Quetta Road, close to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-Balochistan border. The blast caused extensive damage to the checkpost and a nearby house, while intense firing was also reported after the explosion.
Rescue 1122 teams reached the site soon after receiving information and launched a rescue and relief operation. Six ambulances, a fire vehicle and more than 25 rescuers took part in the operation.
The bodies of the victims were recovered from the blast site, while the injured were provided immediate medical aid and shifted to nearby medical facilities in Darazinda and Dera Ismail Khan.
RPO Ghulam Mubashir Maken said the process of providing immediate medical treatment to the injured and shifting them to hospitals was continuing. Of the 35 injured, 25 were referred to DHQ Teaching Hospital, Dera Ismail Khan, for further treatment.
District Emergency Officer Muhammad Arif Khan directed the deployment of four additional ambulances and rescue personnel from Dera Ismail Khan to assist in the evacuation and treatment of the injured.
Several members of a family residing in the house destroyed in the blast were also among the casualties. Gul Maidanah Bibi, wife of Rozi Khan, Maqoo Bibi, wife of Jalal Khan, and Gul Warina Bibi, daughter of Jalal Khan, were reported among the deceased, while Jalal Khan and his brother Najeebullah sustained injuries.
District Police Officer Dera Ziauddin Ahmad and Superintendent of Police Saddar reached the site and supervised the rescue and evacuation operation.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the incident and sought a report from the relevant authorities. He directed the authorities to ensure provision of all possible medical facilities to the injured.
Police, rescue and other relevant teams remained engaged in search, rescue and relief operations at the site.
