LAHORE, Sep 26 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the timely completion of ongoing health projects and approved the establishment of Maryam Nawaz Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Mianwali and Kulsoom Nawaz Cancer Hospital in Dera Ghazi Khan.
Chairing a meeting to review major healthcare projects here on Saturday, the chief minister also decided to establish the 268-bed Nawaz Sharif-Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiology in Gujranwala.
A report on the proposed medical college project in Layyah was also presented during the meeting, where the chief minister directed the authorities concerned to expedite its establishment.
The meeting reviewed progress on the Nawaz Sharif Medical District, Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research Centre, and Sargodha Institute of Cardiology.
Under the Nawaz Sharif Medical District project, specialised institutes for infectious diseases, plastic surgery, genetics, surgery and orthopaedics will be established.
The medical district will also include a second children’s hospital, an Institute of Ophthalmology, an Al-Shifa Eye Trust Hospital and a 100-bed general hospital.
The CM directed the relevant departments to ensure timely execution of the healthcare initiatives and accelerate work on the projects to improve access to specialised medical facilities across Punjab.
