LAHORE, Sep 25 (APP): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has said the university has historically remained a major centre of knowledge, scholarship, research and professional development, with its graduates and scholars making significant contributions to higher education, public service and professional fields across Pakistan.
He was speaking at a meet-and-greet gathering organised by University of Kotli Vice Chancellor, University of Poonch Vice Chancellor and former University of Okara VC Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar to felicitate Prof Dr Rubeena Zakar on her appointment as Dean of PU’s Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences (FBSS).
Prof Dr Muhammad Ali congratulated Dr Rubeena Zakar on her appointment and highlighted Punjab University’s longstanding contribution to higher education and research in the country. He said many scholars and professionals trained at PU had gone on to serve universities and institutions nationwide.
He also appreciated the participation of senior academicians and university leaders, saying informal interactions provided opportunities to share experiences, exchange ideas and strengthen academic networks.
Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar welcomed the guests and said such gatherings enabled academic leaders to interact beyond formal institutional settings, facilitating candid discussions, reflection on shared experiences and the development of professional collaborations.
Dr Rubeena Zakar thanked the vice chancellors, deans, academicians and other distinguished guests for their participation and congratulatory messages. She said leadership in higher education was a collective responsibility and pledged to work with faculty, researchers, students and academic leadership to further strengthen the FBSS.
She stressed that universities were not merely centres for teaching and awarding degrees but also important spaces for intellectual engagement, critical thinking, research, dialogue and knowledge creation.
Serving and former vice chancellors of public and private universities, deans, senior faculty members and other distinguished academicians attended the gathering, which also provided an opportunity to welcome newly appointed academic leaders and acknowledge colleagues who had completed their institutional terms.
