PFA seals renowned sweets production unit & water plant
LAHORE, Sep 24 (APP): An enforcement team of the Punjab Food Authority sealed a renowned sweets production unit and a water plant, while imposing heavy fines on 10 food businesses during a crackdown in China Scheme, Sabzi Mandi Chah Miran and adjoining areas.
Food safety team took action after a water sample failed laboratory analysis. Spokesperson for the Punjab Food Authority said that various harmful bacteria were found in the water, following which the water plant was sealed to prevent the supply of unsafe water to consumers.
The spokesperson said that prohibited colours and chemicals were recovered from a bakery unit and subsequently discarded. Poor arrangements were also observed in the storage and production areas, along with heavy infestation of insects. He said that mandatory medical and food safety training certificates of employees were not available. Detergent was also being used for washing utensils in violation of food safety regulations.
He said that food products stored in dirty freezers were found without mandatory expiry dates, while poor storage conditions further compromised food safety standards.
The PFA spokesperson stated that all food businesses must operate in accordance with the prescribed food safety regulations. He further stated that indiscriminate enforcement action against businesses endangering public health will continue.
