Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday expressed concern over the prevailing law and order situation in the province, saying the provincial government had failed to ensure the safety of the people. He assured tribal elders that their issues would be taken up with the Prime Minister and relevant authorities.

PESHAWAR, Sep 24 (APP): Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday expressed concern over the prevailing law and order situation in the province, saying the provincial government had failed to ensure the safety of the people. He assured tribal elders that their issues would be taken up with the Prime Minister and relevant authorities.
Addressing All FATA Jirga at the Governor House, the Governor said peace and development in the merged districts were essential for the province’s stability.
The jirga was attended by All FATA Jirga Chairman Malik Bismillah Khan Kukikhel, Malik Khan Marjan, Malik Waris Khan Afridi and tribal elders and representatives from Bajaur to North and South Waziristan.
The participants apprised the Governor of administrative and financial issues, deteriorating law and order, and development challenges in the merged districts.
Governor Kundi said the tribal people had rendered unmatched sacrifices by protecting the country’s borders and contributing to national defence. He said promises made to the merged districts, including the allocation of Rs1,000 billion over ten years, had yet to be fulfilled despite the passage of eight years.
He said he had already raised the issues of the merged districts with the Prime Minister and would continue pursuing them, adding that matters relating to provincial administration would also be discussed with the Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other relevant officials.
The tribal elders said they supported administrative reforms but stressed that the people of the merged districts must be consulted on all decisions regarding their future.
They expressed concern over the lack of expected progress in development, peace and governance since 2018 and also highlighted reservations regarding taxation.
They requested the Governor to facilitate meetings with the President, Prime Minister and Interior Minister to apprise them of the issues and concerns of the tribal people.
The jirga elders also appreciated the efforts of Khyber Chamber of Commerce and Pakistan-Afghanistan Border Council President Syed Jawad Kazmi, PPP KP Deputy Secretary Information Syed Tahir Abbas and senior journalist Qazi Fazlullah Jan for supporting dialogue and efforts aimed at resolving the issues of the merged districts.
