IG Sindh visits SMIU, praises historic role of Quaid’s Alma mater

KARACHI, Sep 24 (APP): Inspector General Sindh Police Javed Alam Odho visited Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) on Thursday, where he was welcomed by Vice Chancellor Dr Mujeeb Sahrai.

During the visit, the Sindh IGP toured the Jinnah Museum, Khan Bahadur Hassanally Effendi Library, TV Studio, Hashmat Lodhi Youth Development Center, IT Tower, Business Incubation Center, and the AI Lab at the university.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that it is a matter of great honour for him to visit this prestigious institution; not only did the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, receive his education here, but he also feels a double sense of joy because his grandfather and great-grandfather studied here in the 1920s and 1930s, respectively.

He urged the youth to act upon the motto of SMIU: “Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve.” He stated that when young people complete their education and step into professional life, they should certainly build their careers and ensure their families’ well-being, but they must also serve their country and nation. Such service should be the primary objective of their lives.

While speaking to the students during the visit to the Hashmat Lodi Youth Development Center, Javed Alam Odho stated that, alongside acquiring a modern education, students should also play a role in the betterment of society. He expressed regret that young people, including those studying in educational institutions, are falling victim to drug abuse, and emphasized that parents, teachers, and fellow students must all play their part in guiding them onto the right path.

During a visit to the AI lab, he mentioned that SMIU and the Sindh Police would collaborate in the field of AI and sign MoU soon.

Praising the role of Vice Chancellor of SMIU Dr Mujeeb Sahrai in transforming the university into an excellent institution of learning, IGP Sindh Odho remarked that Dr Sahrai has modernized this historic academic institution in every respect; however, as there is always room for further improvement, the university will continue to provide quality education to its students with enhanced facilities in the future.

Dr Mujeeb Sahrai (S.I) stated that, due to its historic role, SMIU stands as a national heritage; countless generations have benefited from its 142-year legacy of successful education and character building. He emphasized that efforts have been made not only to preserve the institution’s historic identity but also to ensure that, much like a modern institution of any era, it imparts modern education and provides training to the new generation, standing as a high-quality, institution in the country today.

During the tour, Ms Zonaira Jalali, Manager, Directorate of Students’ Affairs and Counseling, Dr Mansoor Ahmed Khuhro, Chairperson, Department of Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Sciences, Shahid Obaid, Manager of Business Incubation Center, and  Mahjabeen Ali, Additional Librarian and Nadia Kiran, Deputy Librarian, Syeda Ayesha Urooj Naqvi, Assistant Librarian and Tariq Aziz Gorar, Assistant Librarian, provided the IG Sindh with detailed information about their respective departments, while Deputy Director (Staff) Sajid Ali briefed him on the Jinnah Museum.
