Fuel relief scheme progressing successfully across country: Ahad Cheema
ISLAMABAD, Sep 24 (APP):Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Senator Ahad Khan Cheema, said here on Thursday that fuel relief scheme was progressing successfully across the country.
The minister was chairing a meeting to review the implementation of the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme, according to a press release issued by the Economic Affairs Ministry.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar: Federal Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik; Federal Minister for IT, Shaza Fatima Khawaja; the Minister of State for Finance; and representatives of relevant institutions and provincial governments attended the meeting.
The Ministry of IT and the Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA) briefed the meeting on the implementation of the scheme. It was informed that more than five million people have registered under the scheme and fuel tokens are being generated successfully. Registration-related and other issues at most petrol pumps have also been resolved.
The meeting reviewed registration difficulties faced by some rickshaw and loader owners, particularly where vehicles are not registered with provincial Excise Departments. Provincial representatives informed the meeting that registration of rickshaws had begun.
Eligible owners will be able to benefit from the scheme once their vehicles are registered. The meeting was also informed that owners of registered motorcycles are receiving relief under the scheme.
Minister Cheema called for the registration-related issues faced by rickshaws and loaders to be addressed promptly. He said eligible owners should not be left out of the relief effort and asked the Pakistan Digital Authority to include vehicle-registration and token-payment complaints in a dedicated complaint portal, to be made operational at the earliest.
The PDA informed the meeting that it would work to launch the portal as soon as possible so that users could register complaints and seek resolution of their issues.
The minister welcomed visits by members of parliament to petrol pumps in their constituencies, in line with the Prime Minister’s directions. He said that real-time updates and feedback from these visits were helping improve the system.
The meeting was informed that most payments to petrol pumps had been made. State Bank representatives said that pending payment issues were expected to be resolved within a day or two.
Minister Cheema emphasized that payment delays should not disrupt the scheme’s implementation. He expressed satisfaction with the performance of provincial governments and district administrations in implementing the scheme.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said that public awareness efforts were underway through media and on-ground outreach, and that all possible steps were being taken to inform citizens about the scheme.
