Pakistani graphic designer takes the world stage at WorldSkills competition
SHANGHAI, Sept 24 (APP):Nabeed Ul Arfeen, a student of Memon Industrial and Technical Institute (MITI), is representing Pakistan in Graphic Design Technology at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, regarded as the world’s largest and most influential vocational skills competition.
It marks the country’s first participation in the competition since it joined WorldSkills in 2017.
“It’s the first time for me to compete with other competitors on an international platform,” Nabeed said. For him, competing on the global stage is both a challenge and an opportunity to represent his country’s creative talent.
“Pakistan boasts a thriving media, graphic design and printing industry, especially in Karachi. I want to show the international audience Pakistan’s great culture, like Ajrak, local aesthetics and other unique creative elements,” Nabeed told CEN.
As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to reshape the design industry, Nabeed believes technology should support rather than replace human creativity. “AI can help designers make their work faster, but developing creative concepts remains a fundamentally human task,” he said.
Looking ahead, Nabeed hopes to see greater cooperation between Pakistani and Chinese designers and vocational students. “China is great in graphic design. Designers from both countries can continue to learn from each other and improve their skills,” he said.
The competition runs for three days, with different tasks scheduled for each day. Pakistan is represented by three competitors at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 in Graphic Design Technology, Cooking and Electrical Installation.
