Pakistan, Maldives agree to strengthen multiple ties including trade, defence

NEW YORK, Sep 24 (APP): Pakistan and Maldives on Thursday agreed on the importance of sustained high-level engagement and further strengthening cooperation in multiple areas, including trade, connectivity, economic relations, business-to-business linkages, academia, and defence.

The bilateral ties and cooperation were discussed in a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Foreign Minister of the Maldives Iruthisham Adam, on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly here.

The two sides reviewed bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction over the positive momentum in Pakistan-Maldives ties.

They emphasised greater cooperation at the multilateral level, including through the United Nations, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, reaffirming their commitment to working closely on issues of mutual interest.

The Maldivian foreign minister underscored the importance her country attaches to further strengthening its longstanding relations with Pakistan.
