KARACHI, Sep 23 (APP):Federal Minister for the Board of Investment (BOI) Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, Wednesday, highlighted the significance of facilitating investment, export and SME sectors for ensuring sustainable economic growth.
The federal minister, addressing industrialists at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), underscored the strategic importance of the industrial zones in the country’s economy and appreciated the contribution of the Korangi Industrial Area in Pakistan’s total exports.
Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, according to a statement issued here, said that Pakistan’s business community had historically demonstrated significant entrepreneurial potential, noting that China had learned from Pakistan’s business community in the early stages of its economic development.
China had become a major global economic power, with people across the country engaged in businesses and contributing to economic growth, he said and urged on policy consistency and business and investment friendly environment to enable more entrepreneurs in Pakistan to establish themselves as successful industrialists and businessmen.
Highlighting the core role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and exporting sectors in Pakistan’s economy, he stressed on further policy attention and support for expansion of the sectors.
Earlier, KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput proposed simplifying the process of acquiring land, ownership verification, obtaining no-objection certificates (NOCs) and securing approvals from various departments for new industries and investors through a one-window mechanism.
He stressed the need for consistent and long-term investment policies, measures for reducing energy and industrial production costs and creating a more conducive environment for new investment in Pakistan.
