RAWALPINDI, Sep 23 (APP):Provincial security authorities have initiated strict preventive measures to head off potential law and order disruptions across the Rawalpindi Division, formally approaching the Federal Ministry of Interior to reduce mobile data speeds and deploy targeted cellular network jammers starting September 27.
The administrative directive, issued by the Punjab Home Department, requested the federal government to temporarily downgrade 2G, 3G, and 4G mobile internet coverage and enforce signal jamming across strategic urban sectors of Rawalpindi and designated zones of Attock district.
According to senior officials, the digital restrictions follow specific operational assessments submitted by the regional police leadership, aimed at neutralizing anti-social elements, preventing rumor-mongering and maintaining public tranquility.
According to the details, the service downgrades will cover important transit routes and motorway interchanges, specifically targeting Brahma Bahtar, Ganjo, Ahata, Taxila City, Wah Cantt (Sadr), Thalian and Chakri.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department reaffirmed that maintaining regional stability and safeguarding the life and property of citizens remain the primary focus of the provincial administration.
