PESHAWAR, Sep 23 (APP): Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has directed the relevant authorities to refrain from withdrawing, removing or discontinuing security provided to members of the provincial assembly.

The Assembly Secretariat has also written to the Home Department and KP Inspector General of Police, seeking continuation of security arrangements for lawmakers.

The letter said provision of security to lawmakers was not merely an administrative matter but a legal entitlement under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Powers, Immunities and Privileges Act, 2026.

Under Section 12 of the Act, every member of the provincial assembly is entitled to Category-B security during their tenure, it said.

It said unilateral withdrawal or removal of security personnel assigned to members could amount to a violation of their legal privilege.

It added that any breach of the relevant provision would be treated as a violation of privilege under Section 31 of the Act.
