UN-Habitat, PDMA discuss climate resilience project for Balochistan cities
QUETTA, Sep 22 (APP):A delegation of UN-Habitat visited the headquarters of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Balochistan on Tuesday to discuss the identification of vulnerable secondary and small cities in the province for a project aimed at strengthening community resilience to heat waves and other climate-induced hazards.
The delegation, led by UN-Habitat Balochistan Provincial Coordinator Mirwais Khan, held a meeting with Deputy Director PDMA Asghar Ali Jamali on the direction of Relief Commissioner/DG PDMA Balochistan.
The meeting focused on identifying districts and cities particularly vulnerable to heatwaves and other climate-related hazards under the project titled “Strengthening Community Resilience to Heat Waves and Climate-induced Hazards in Secondary and Small Cities of Pakistan.”
Asgahr Ali Jamali briefed the delegation on Balochistan’s vulnerability profile, past heatwave incidents and the preparedness and response mechanisms being undertaken by PDMA to address climate-related emergencies.
The participants agreed to convene a formal follow-up meeting, during which a detailed presentation would be made to assess vulnerabilities and finalise the district or cities to be considered for pilot intervention under the project.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to further strengthen coordination and collaboration between PDMA Balochistan and UN-Habitat in addressing climate-induced risks and enhancing community resilience across the province.
