MULTAN, Sep 22 (APP):A newly elected body of the Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI)

met Commissioner Multan division, Aamir Karim Khan, and discussed measures

to promote business activities, improve civic amenities and strengthen cooperation

between the administration and the business community.

The meeting focused on Multan’s development, promotion of economic activities,

improvement of public facilities and greater participation of the private sector in

welfare and development projects.

Commissioner Aamir Karim Khan said the development of Multan was not solely

the responsibility of government institutions, stressing that the business community,

philanthropists and civil society must also play their role. He said joint initiatives

by the administration and private sector could be launched to directly benefit citizens.

He said several public welfare initiatives had already been undertaken with the support

of philanthropists, including the provision of free meals to deserving people through the

Man-o-Salwa initiative, provision of hearing aids to children with hearing impairment,

and beautification of important city intersections.

The commissioner said private-sector participation could be further expanded in areas

including urban beautification, green belts, parks, beautification of intersections, clean

drinking water, healthcare, education and facilities for persons with disabilities. He urged

business organisations to adopt viable projects under their corporate social responsibility

programmes and play a sustained role in improving the city.

He said the restoration of historic Multan was also a shared responsibility. Work was underway

under the Walled City project for the rehabilitation of historic sites, a library, food street,

craft bazaar and other civic and cultural facilities. These initiatives, he added, would help

preserve Multan’s historic identity while creating new facilities for residents and tourists.

Commissioner Aamir Karim Khan urged the newly elected chamber body to present the

business community’s proposals in an organised manner and promote practical partnership

with the administration for resolving major civic issues. He assured the business community

of all possible cooperation in resolving legitimate issues and creating a conducive environment

for investment.

The chamber representatives assured the commissioner that the business community would

play a more active role in Multan’s economic and social development, civic improvement and

public welfare initiatives.
