ANF foils attempts to smuggle over 46 kg of narcotics to Gulf countries

RAWALPINDI, Sep 22 (APP):The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had foiled 12 attempts to smuggle 46.936 kg of narcotics to Gulf countries during intelligence-based operations at major international airports across the country, arresting 18 suspects.
According to an ANF spokesperson, the operations were conducted under strict surveillance and enhanced counter-narcotics measures, with most of the suspects travelling to Saudi Arabia, while others were bound for the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
The recovered drugs included 37.654 kg of methamphetamine (ice), 2.500 kg of heroin and 6.762 kg of ecstasy tablets, which were allegedly being trafficked abroad.
Most of the arrested suspects were travelling to Saudi Arabia on Umrah visas. The spokesperson said criminal elements involved in drug trafficking reportedly exploit innocent citizens by offering fake free Umrah packages and using them as carriers for the illegal transportation of narcotics.
The ANF is also conducting public awareness campaigns to educate passengers, youth and citizens about the risks associated with carrying unknown items, parcels or luggage provided by others.
The public has been advised not to carry any unknown items or parcels on behalf of others, as doing so may lead to serious legal consequences.
The spokesperson said the ANF was continuing coordinated efforts to prevent the smuggling of narcotics to Gulf countries through intelligence-based operations, enhanced monitoring at airports, cooperation with relevant institutions and public awareness initiatives.
