On Int’l Day of Peace, Bishop Azad Marshall congratulates Ashrafi on Global Peace Award
ISLAMABAD, Sep 21 (APP):On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, President of the Church of Pakistan Bishop Azad Marshall, accompanied by a delegation, called on Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council and Coordinator of the National Paigham-e-Aman Committee, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, at his residence and congratulated him on receiving the “Global Peace Award” from the Church of Pakistan.
Bishop Azad Marshall said Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi’s longstanding services for the promotion of peace, interfaith harmony, religious tolerance and dialogue were commendable and a source of pride.
He said the Christian community of Pakistan deeply valued Ashrafi’s contributions and paid tribute to his continued efforts to promote understanding, respect and harmony among followers of different faiths.
Bishop Marshall said Ashrafi had consistently raised his voice for the protection of the rights of non-Muslim Pakistanis and religious minorities and had stood with the Christian community during difficult times.
He said the Christian community held Ashrafi’s services and role in high regard, describing his efforts for peace and interfaith cooperation as an important contribution to promoting harmony in society.
Speaking on the occasion, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi thanked Bishop Azad Marshall and his delegation for their visit, appreciation and confidence in his efforts.
“I consider it my duty to work for the peace, security and service of every Pakistani living in Pakistan. Protecting the lives, property, dignity and rights of non-Muslim Pakistanis is our moral, legal and religious responsibility,” Ashrafi said.
He expressed his gratitude to the Christian community of Pakistan for the trust, affection and encouragement extended to him.
Ashrafi said that on the occasion of the International Day of Peace, the commitment to peace, mutual respect, tolerance and interfaith harmony should be further strengthened through collective efforts.
He said joint efforts would continue to promote interfaith harmony, mutual respect, tolerance and dialogue in Pakistan and to build a society where all citizens, regardless of their faith, can live with dignity, security and equal rights.
