Excise teams seize 720kg hashish, 240kg opium
PESHAWAR, Sep 21 (APP):The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department on Monday seized 960 kilograms of narcotics, including 720kg of hashish and 240kg of opium, in an intelligence-based operation in the provincial capital.
The department described the recovery as the biggest single seizure in the history of its Excise Intelligence Bureau.
According to an official release, the narcotics were recovered from a Toyota Revo (SB-5069 Sindh). Three special teams, led by Provincial Incharge Aqif Nawaz Khan, launched the operation after receiving information about the suspected vehicle.
The teams set up a blockade near Jahaz Chowk and pursued the vehicle when its driver attempted to evade interception. The vehicle was eventually stopped near Ring Road.
The suspect allegedly opened fire at the Excise teams and resisted arrest before fleeing under the cover of darkness, the release said.
A case has been registered at Excise Police Station, Peshawar, and further investigation was underway to trace and arrest the fleeing suspect and his accomplices.
Excise Minister Syed Fakhar Jahan termed the recovery a major achievement and said operations against drug trafficking would continue on an intelligence basis.
He said the department would maintain a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and take action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.
The minister said protecting the younger generation from drugs was a priority and that operations would continue across the province to curb narcotics trafficking.
