SIALKOT, Sep 21 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed the production unit of a renowned bakery on Eminabad Road in Nawan Pind, Sialkot, and imposed a fine of Rs500,000 over violations of food safety regulations.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Additional Director General Farhan Ahmed, according to a Food Authority spokesperson. The action was taken over failure to comply with previously issued instructions.
The spokesperson said cockroaches and other insects were found in the bread processing area, while inadequate pest-control arrangements, open drains and poorly maintained freezers were also observed. Around 100 kilograms of packing material was confiscated and destroyed.
The inspection also revealed the absence of oil-change records and employees’ medical and training certificates. Non-food-grade brushes were being used, while dairy products and meat were stored together, the spokesperson added.
The Food Authority spokesperson said adulteration and food fraud would not be tolerated. Citizens were urged to report food-related complaints by calling helpline 1223.
