SIALKOT, Sep 20 (APP):Provincial Minister for Local Government Mian Zeeshan Rafique said the response to recent protest calls reflected, in his view, a preference among citizens for development, stability and public service.
Talking to media representatives in Daska, the minister said the public response to protest demonstrations in Lahore, Sialkot and Wazirabad, as well as a protest call issued by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, indicated changing public priorities.
He said history showed that when people supported a political leadership, even major challenges could not prevent it from moving forward. Referring to the movement for restoration of the judiciary, he recalled that the caravan led by Mian Nawaz Sharif travelled from Model Town to Shahdara despite difficulties and obstacles.
Mian Zeeshan Rafique said the Punjab government was focusing on public service and practical governance through various welfare and development initiatives.
He cited programmes including Suthra Punjab, Kisan Card, Minority Card, Dhee Rani Programme, free medical treatment and medicines, education initiatives, electric bus services, Apna Khet Apna Rozgar and Apni Chhat Apna Ghar as measures aimed at improving public welfare.
The minister said Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had allocated Rs15 billion under the Punjab Development Programme for Daska, with work underway to improve civic amenities and infrastructure.
He said development projects in Daska included construction and rehabilitation of 102 kilometers of sewerage lines, roads and streets, construction of 43 kilometres of roads, and establishment of disposal stations and storage tanks. Work was also underway on parks to provide recreational facilities to citizens.
Mian Zeeshan Rafique said the Daska Trauma Centre had been completed to improve access to healthcare services for local residents.
He said the government was taking steps to improve civic facilities, infrastructure and public services across Punjab, including Daska, with a focus on addressing local issues through development projects.
He added that the government’s focus was on translating its development plans into tangible improvements in public services.
