Chairman CDA reviews Islamabad Expressway East, E-12 development; 58 illegal units sealed, 290 Kanals retrieved
ISLAMABAD, Sep 19 (APP):Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Soahil Asaraf and Chief Commissioner Islamabad conducted a detailed field inspection of Islamabad Expressway Service Road East Project and Sector E-12 on Saturday and reviewed progress of major infrastructure and anti-encroachment operations.
The Chairman directed concerned formations to accelerate pace of work, remove all bottlenecks and ensure timely completion while maintaining quality, safety and construction standards.
During inspection of Islamabad Expressway Service Road East Project, the Chairman reviewed rehabilitation and infrastructure works at various sections and received comprehensive briefing from officers and project teams regarding implementation, site conditions and measures to remove impediments.
He was briefed on the enforcement operation against illegal, unauthorized and non-conforming buildings along the Service Road East being carried out by Building Control Section and Enforcement Directorate in coordination with District Administration and Islamabad Police.
According to briefing, CDA has so far taken action against 58 construction units found in violation of building control regulations, including 34 units along Sohan–Iqbal Town stretch and 24 units along Korang Bridge–Korang Police Station and Gulberg Greens stretch. Further illegal units have been identified and survey in remaining areas is continuing.
The briefing revealed several commercial buildings were involved in non-conforming use and lacking mandatory fire-safety arrangements. Notices were issued to owners to rectify violations, complete fire-safety measures, obtain approvals and clear government dues, but despite expiry of stipulated period, several failed to comply, leading to enforcement action as per law.
The Chairman directed strict compliance with fire-safety requirements including approved building plans, emergency exits and fire equipment, and effective traffic management to minimize inconvenience for commuters. He said Expressway East is a major initiative to improve connectivity, traffic flow and road capacity between Islamabad, Rawalpindi and adjoining areas.
Later, the Chairman visited Sector E-12 and inspected ongoing development works including roads, drainage and municipal facilities. He directed acceleration of works, effective utilization of resources and adherence to approved designs and timelines.
During E-12 briefing, he was informed that approximately 290 kanals of valuable CDA land has been retrieved from illegal occupants as part of ongoing anti-encroachment drive. The Chairman directed that retrieved land remain fully protected against re-encroachment and utilized strictly as per approved plans for planned development and public infrastructure.
Citizens and commuters present appreciated Chairman’s personal visits and action against encroachments, describing retrieval of 290 kanals as an important step to protect public assets and facilitate planned development.
Member Estate, Member Planning, DG Works, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad and other senior officers were present.
The Chairman directed regular field inspections, close monitoring of daily progress and periodic updates to ensure both projects remain on schedule, reiterating that timely completion, protection of public land, strict enforcement of building regulations and provision of modern infrastructure remain key priorities.
