RAWALPINDI, Sep 18 (APP):The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has intensified efforts to increase green spaces and promote plantation in cantonment areas, with officials terming urban greenery an important component of a cleaner and healthier civic environment.
Under the directions of Cantonment Executive Officer Amir Rashid, plantation activities are being carried out at different locations, including areas along Nullah Lai after completion of cleanliness operations.
The initiative is aimed at improving the visual outlook of neglected sites while increasing greenery in urban localities.
Urban forests and green spaces are increasingly considered important for improving the quality of the urban environment by providing shade, reducing dust and helping mitigate the effects of rising temperatures.
The RCB’s plantation drive is part of broader efforts to make cantonment areas cleaner, greener and more pleasant for residents.
Officials emphasized that regular maintenance and protection of newly planted trees and plants would be essential for ensuring sustainable results of the plantation activities.
