The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)-based weekly inflation increased by 0.49 percent during the week ended on September 17, 2026, for the combined consumption group, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported here Friday.
SPI-based inflation rises 0.49pc

ISLAMABAD, Sep 18 (APP):The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)-based weekly inflation increased by 0.49 percent during the week ended on September 17, 2026, for the combined consumption group, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported here Friday.
According to PBS data, the SPI for the week under review rose to 366.05 points from 364.26 points recorded in the previous week. On a year-on-year basis, the SPI increased by 10.64 percent.
The weekly SPI, with base year 2015-16=100, covers 17 urban centres and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.
The SPI for the lowest consumption group (up to Rs 17,732) decreased by 0.14 percent, while the SPI for consumption groups of Rs 17,733–22,888 increased by 0.01 percent and Rs 22,889–29,517 rose by 0.14 percent respectively.
On the other hand, the SPI for groups of Rs 29,518–44,175 and above Rs 44,175 increased by 0.30 percent and 0.77 percent respectively.
During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 19 items (37.25 percent) increased, 09 items (17.65 percent) decreased, while 23 items (45.10 percent) remained unchanged.
On a week-on-week basis, the items that witnessed an increase in prices included diesel, which rose by 7.29 percent, followed by petrol 6.40 percent, LPG 3.26 percent, garlic 1.94 percent, eggs 1.72 percent, pulse gram 0.80 percent, plain bread 0.74 percent, pulse masoor 0.49 percent, mustard oil 0.44 percent, pulse moong 0.39 percent, mutton 0.26 percent and firewood 0.07 percent.
On the other hand, the prices of bananas decreased by 6.17 percent, followed by tomatoes 5.66 percent, onions 4.57 percent, chicken 2.33 percent, powdered milk 0.40 percent, wheat flour 0.28 percent, rice IRRI-6/9 0.16 percent and sugar 0.14 percent.
On a year-on-year basis, major increases were observed in the prices of onions (117.77 percent), LPG (60.42 percent), diesel (54.21 percent), petrol (48.00 percent), electricity for Q1 (33.54 percent) and wheat flour (33.27 percent).
A decrease is observed in the prices of potatoes (35.31%), sugar (20.95%), eggs (19.31%), chicken (15.26%), salt powder (13.96%), pulse gram (12.42%), pulse masoor (11.26%) and pulse moong (8.49%).
