2026 Global Ocean Development Forum Opens in Qingdao
QINGDAO, Sept. 17 (APP):The 2026 Global Ocean Development Forum opened Thursday in Qingdao, east China’s Shandong Province, bringing together participants to discuss international cooperation, marine economic development and sustainable ocean governance.
Hu Chunhua, Vice-President of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
Hu said Chinese President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to the development of the marine sector and has guided China’s marine economy toward continued growth. He noted that Xi’s proposal to build a community with a shared future for the oceans provides a Chinese perspective and approach to addressing challenges in global ocean governance.
In his remarks, Hu highlighted China’s efforts in recent years to expand international cooperation in the marine sector, with a focus on promoting the prosperity of the marine economy and advancing sustainable development.
He said oceans play a strategically important role in achieving high-quality development and called for greater international cooperation to build a modern marine industrial system.
Hu proposed deepening joint innovation in marine science and technology, strengthening safeguards for marine ecological security, promoting exchanges and mutual learning among different marine cultures, and maintaining a sound and stable maritime order.
He expressed China’s willingness to work with countries around the world to advance marine development in the new era and ensure that the benefits of ocean cooperation are shared more broadly by people worldwide.
