Pakistan-China boundary joint commission launched to strengthen border cooperation
ISLAMABAD, Sep 17 (APP):The inaugural meeting of the Pakistan-China Boundary Joint Commission (BJC) was held here on Thursday, marking the formal launch of the Commission envisaged under the 2013 China-Pakistan Agreement on Boundary Management System.
The Pakistan delegation was led by Director General (China), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bilal Mahmood Chaudhary, while the Chinese delegation was headed by Deputy Director General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Li Ya, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs news release said.
Senior representatives from relevant ministries and departments of both countries, including foreign affairs, defence, interior, commerce, communications, customs, survey and other boundary management authorities, participated in the meeting.
Both sides described the establishment of the Commission as a significant milestone in further strengthening the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
The discussions covered a wide range of issues relating to border management and cooperation, including cross-border coordination, movement of goods and people, joint border surveys and people-to-people linkages.
The meeting concluded with the signing of the minutes, reaffirming the mutual consensus and setting out a framework for future cooperation under the Commission.
Both sides agreed to hold the next meeting of the Boundary Joint Commission in China on mutually convenient dates.
