PEIRA launches digital services for private schools
ISLAMABAD, Sep 17 (APP):The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (ICT-PEIRA) on Thursday launched its “PEIRA Digital Services” initiative in Islamabad to digitise regulatory services for private schools, improve transparency and efficiency, reduce paperwork and facilitate citizens and educational institutions through online access to key services.
The launching ceremony was held at the auditorium of the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE), with Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui as chief guest.
Senior government officials, educationists, representatives of private educational institutions and other stakeholders attended the event.
Addressing the ceremony, the federal minister appreciated ICT-PEIRA for introducing comprehensive digital services and said technology is an effective means of promoting transparency, accountability and public confidence in government institutions.
He said transparency is a fundamental pillar of good governance and democracy, adding that digital transformation could make regulatory processes more accessible, efficient and citizen-friendly.
Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui emphasised that services such as online registration and renewal, e-licensing, complaint redressal, attestation and migration were necessities of a modern regulatory system rather than optional facilities.
He said citizens and educational institutions should be able to access essential regulatory services conveniently without unnecessary paperwork, delays and repeated visits to government offices.
Chairman ICT-PEIRA Dr Ghulam Ali Mallah appreciated the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training for its continued support, guidance and encouragement for the Authority’s reform and digital transformation agenda.
He said the role of a modern regulator should not be confined to enforcement, but should also include facilitation of educational institutions while ensuring quality education, institutional accountability and implementation of government policies.
“Regulators must also be facilitators. Our responsibility is to facilitate educational institutions while ensuring quality education, institutional accountability and implementation of government policies,” he said.
Dr Mallah highlighted the significant role of private educational institutions in Islamabad, saying they account for around 60 per cent of total student enrolment in the federal capital.
Given the sector’s substantial contribution to education, he said constructive engagement with private institutions, coupled with effective regulation and quality assurance, was essential for strengthening Islamabad’s education system.
He said the digital transformation of PEIRA was not merely a technological upgrade but an institutional reform aimed at making regulatory services faster, simpler, more transparent and accessible.
The initiative is expected to reduce reliance on paperwork, minimise unnecessary physical visits to government offices and provide educational institutions and citizens with a more responsive regulatory environment.
The launch of PEIRA Digital Services also reflects the Authority’s broader focus on digital governance, transparency, ease of doing business, quality assurance and citizen-centric service delivery.
It is also in line with the government’s efforts to use technology to modernise public institutions and make essential government services more accessible to citizens.
The ceremony concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks by ICT-PEIRA Member Academics Imtiaz Ali Qureshi, who acknowledged the support and guidance of the federal minister, the leadership of the PEIRA chairman, participating educational institutions, officials and other stakeholders who contributed to the successful launch of the initiative.
