Nawaz Sharif Medical District to offer multiple healthcare facilities: minister

LAHORE, Sep 16 (APP):Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that revolutionary and historic projects worth billions of rupees are being launched in the health sector, while multiple healthcare facilities are being established under the Nawaz Sharif Medical District Lahore project.
He was presiding over a meeting regarding the Nawaz Sharif Medical District Lahore at the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department here on Wednesday. The meeting reviewed the project in detail, while relevant officials briefed the participants on the latest progress.
The minister said that facilities to be established under the project include Children’s Hospital-II, Institute of Genetic and Blood Diseases, Institute of Surgical, Orthopedic and Medical Rehabilitation, Center of Excellence for Nursing Education, a specialized medical hospital, cardiac hospital, medical university and a state-of-the-art diagnostic laboratory.
He said a network of new government hospitals was being established across the province to facilitate the public, emphasizing that provision of quality healthcare facilities to people at their doorsteps was a top priority of the government.
Khawaja Salman Rafique directed the executing agency to expedite work on various new health projects.
Punjab Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood said the objective was to ensure that people faced no difficulties in accessing healthcare facilities. He added that the Nawaz Sharif Medical District project was being continuously monitored.
Special Secretary (Development) Ahmed Kamal Mann, Senior Planning Officer and other officials attended the meeting.
