CDA continues indigenous species plantation drive till September end
ISLAMABAD, Sep 16 (APP):The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is continuing its monsoon plantation drive in full swing across Islamabad to make the federal capital greener, more beautiful and environmentally sustainable.
According to an official of the Environment Wing , CDA, the plantation campaign started on July 15, will continue throughout September with provision for extension of one to two weeks depending on weather conditions and rain spell.
If the current rain spell increases, the drive will be extended to take maximum advantage of favorable monsoon conditions. The Authority said plantation has been carried out in all areas of the capital, besides filling missing stock in existing green belts, avenues, medians and parks.
In addition to regular plantation, seed balls of indigenous species are also being dispersed in the Margalla Hills to enhance natural forest cover and biodiversity.
Officials emphasized that all plants and seeds being used under the campaign are purely indigenous trees, selected for better survival, ecological compatibility and climate resilience.
Further more field teams remain actively engaged in plantation, watering and maintenance to ensure maximum survival of newly planted saplings.
The initiative is aimed at improving air quality, reducing urban heat effects and creating a healthier, cleaner and more sustainable Islamabad.
The CDA has urged citizens, students, civil society and community organizations to actively participate in the drive and contribute to the Green Islamabad vision.
Officials said the campaign is part of CDA’s broader strategy to preserve the natural environment of the federal capital, restore indigenous flora and promote sustainable urban development while maintaining Islamabad’s distinct identity as a green and clean city.
