Food Authority seizes 2,300 kg refined sugar, 200 kg adulterated gur, destroys unsafe food
PESHAWAR, Sep 15 (APP):The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority seized large quantities of substandard and adulterated food items and destroyed unsafe products during inspections in Peshawar, Mardan and Charsadda, officials said on Tuesday.
In Peshawar, food safety teams recovered around 2,000 kg of spoiled and hazardous beef liver from a bus during a late-night operation. The seized meat was destroyed according to prescribed standard operating procedures, while legal action was initiated against those responsible.
The teams also inspected food units in Hayatabad Industrial Estate, where they seized around 200 kg of substandard spices from a spices manufacturing unit. An ice cream factory was also found possessing expired packaging material. The concerned units faced legal action and fines for violating food safety and hygiene standards.
In Mardan, a food safety team raided gur-making units on Charsadda Road and recovered around 2,300 kg of refined sugar and 200 kg of adulterated gur from one unit. The unit was sealed and further legal proceedings were initiated.
In Charsadda’s Jora area, food safety officials, along with the district administration, inspected gur-making units and seized bags of sugar and chemicals.
The authority also destroyed around 800 litres of substandard water at a water plant in Charsadda after samples failed quality tests. The operator was fined.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Food Dr Muhammad Israr Khan appreciated the food safety teams for the operations and said that the government would not compromise on the provision of safe and quality food to citizens.
He directed the teams to intensify action against businesses involved in producing or selling adulterated and unsafe food and ensure strict monitoring of food quality across the province
