ISLAMABAD, Sep 15 (APP):Captain (Retd) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry on Tuesday formally took command of Islamabad Police as its new Inspector General, placing public safety, crime prevention and rule of law at the heart of his policing agenda and promising better and timely services for citizens.
An official told APP that the new IGP Sohail received a warm welcome from officers and personnel on his arrival at the Central Police Office (CPO), where a formal change-of-command ceremony was held.
A smartly turned-out police contingent presented a guard of honour to the new police chief.
IGP Sohail held introductory meetings with senior police officers and received detailed briefings on professional and operational matters. He also met staff at the Central Police Office and discussed various policing issues.
The IGP Sohail later visited the Police Martyrs’ Memorial, laid a floral wreath and offered prayers for the departed souls. He paid tribute to police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty and said their sacrifices would always be remembered.
Setting out his priorities, Sohail said maintaining law and order and protecting citizens would remain the foremost responsibility of Islamabad Police.
He said timely and effective police services would be ensured for citizens, while there would be no compromise on merit, transparency and the rule of law.
The IGP Sohail said measures would be taken to further improve the professional capabilities of Islamabad Police, prevent crime and strengthen protection of citizens’ lives and property.
He also called for improvements in traffic management and public facilitation, saying modern technology would be used effectively to make policing more efficient.
Sohail directed police officers and personnel to deal with citizens with courtesy, responsibility and professionalism, stressing the need to further strengthen public trust in the police.
He said accountability and discipline within Islamabad Police would also be strengthened and the professional standards of the force further improved.
