PPP’s democratic struggle marked by sacrifices, says Shazia Mari

SANGHAR, Sep 15 (APP):Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Central Information Secretary Shazia Mari has said that the PPP’s identity is rooted in its struggle for democracy, which forms an integral part of the party’s history, ideology and sacrifices.

In a message issued on the occasion of Democracy Day, she said the PPP had given the country the Constitution of 1973, while Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had laid a strong foundation for democratic principles by declaring the people to be the source of power.

She said Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had also sacrificed her life for democracy. From Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the party’s leadership had paid the price for democracy with their blood, while thousands of party workers had endured hardships for its restoration.

Ms Mari said the PPP’s democratic struggle had been written in prisons, on the streets and in parliament. The Constitution, parliament and the rights of the people remained the fundamental pillars of the party’s democratic struggle.

She said the PPP believed in constitutional supremacy, the dignity of parliament and the sovereignty of the people.

“The people are the source of power, while parliament is the voice of the people,” she said.

The PPP leader said the party would never forget the sacrifices of democratic martyrs and that its workers had kept the flag of democracy flying across generations.

On Democracy Day, she said, the PPP reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the struggle for democracy, constitutional supremacy and protection of the fundamental rights of the people.

Ms Mari further said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari was an effective voice for parliamentary supremacy and a strong and democratic Pakistan.
