LAHORE, Sep 15 (APP):The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on Tuesday intensified action against private individuals allegedly misusing the authority’s name to deceive and extort citizens.
On the directives of LDA Director General Tahir Farooq, cases have been registered against three individuals Malik Akbar,Ashraf and Bin Yamin ,who allegedly posed as LDA employees and a journalist while demanding money from citizens.
The LDA approached police for registration of a case against Malik Akbar at Township Police Station,while applications were submitted against Ashraf and Bin Yamin at Kot Lakhpat Police Station.
According to the LDA,the suspects allegedly targeted property owners in Kot Lakhpat and Township,threatening them over purported illegal constructions and demanding money in exchange for avoiding official action.
The suspects also allegedly used the names of LDA officers and staff to mislead and intimidate citizens.
Malik Akbar allegedly introduced himself as a journalist and blackmailed citizens in connection with alleged illegal constructions.
Cases have been registered against the suspects,the LDA said.
DG LDA Tahir Farooq urged citizens to verify the identity of LDA personnel visiting properties for inspections and immediately inform police if any private individual was found using the authority’s name for fraudulent activities.
He said LDA officials and field staff would be required to display QR-code-based identification cards during field activities.
Officers and staff would also be required to wear LDA jackets and display QR-code-based identification cards while conducting field operations,he added.
