CTP launch crackdown against underage, unlicensed drivers
RAWALPINDI, Sep 14 (APP):City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi have launched a strict crackdown against underage and unlicensed drivers across the district on the directives of Punjab DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir under the “Mehfooz Punjab” vision and Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam.
Under the new enforcement measures, drivers found operating vehicles without a valid licence or being underage will not only be issued traffic challans but their motorcycles or vehicles will also be impounded at the relevant police station.
Motorcycles seized from juvenile riders will only be released after the juvenile’s permit is produced, official said.
The traffic police will also facilitate motorcycle riders in obtaining driving licences during general traffic hold-ups, particularly outside licensing offices.
CTO Farhan Aslam said that a learner’s permit does not authorise a person to drive a motorcycle or vehicle on the road. He stressed that driving without a valid licence or driving while underage is a violation of the law.
“Underage drivers often lack the ability to make quick and mature decisions, which can lead to serious road accidents,” the CTO said, adding that strict enforcement measures had been introduced to prevent accidents and improve road safety.
He urged citizens to obtain their driving licences immediately from the nearest licensing centre to avoid legal complications.
The CTO also appealed to parents, in particular, to keep a close watch on their children and refrain from allowing underage children to drive motorcycles or cars. He said responsible parental supervision was essential to preventing road accidents and ensuring a safer and more orderly traffic system in Rawalpindi.
