SCO RATS Council condemns new attacks on Iran, adopts measures to counter terrorism
ISLAMABAD, Sep 14 (APP):The Council of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO RATS) on Monday condemned the new military attacks against Iran and reaffirmed the SCO’s previously expressed position on the issue.
The 46th meeting of the SCO RATS Council was held here under the chairmanship of Pakistan, with delegations from the competent authorities of SCO member states and representatives of the Executive Committee of SCO RATS in attendance.
The meeting was attended by delegations from Pakistan, Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The council expressed condolences to the government and people of Iran over the tragic death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Seyyed Ali Khamenei, as well as to the families of those killed.
It reaffirmed its position on preserving Iran’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity and supported efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions, establishing peace and ensuring stability in the region.
During the meeting, the participants discussed current issues on the international agenda in the field of regional security.
The council reviewed the implementation of previously adopted decisions concerning coordination among the competent authorities of SCO member states in combating terrorism, separatism and extremism.
It also approved the work plans of the Executive Committee of SCO RATS and expert groups on the most pressing issues related to countering the “three forces of evil”.
Decisions were adopted on the establishment and improvement of information infrastructure to strengthen interaction among the parties.
The meeting also agreed to conduct a joint information operation in the field of countering terrorism in 2027, along with a practical seminar on the use of the internet for terrorist, separatist and extremist purposes.
An agreement was also reached to hold a joint counter-terrorism exercise of the competent authorities of SCO member states to identify and prevent the use of the internet for terrorist, separatist and extremist purposes.
The Thirteenth International Scientific and Practical Conference on cooperation between SCO member states and an SCO observer state in countering terrorism, separatism and extremism is scheduled to be held in Kazakhstan.
The council also considered issues concerning organizational and staffing support for the activities of the Executive Committee of SCO RATS.
Officials of the Executive Committee of SCO RATS and representatives of the competent authorities of SCO member states were awarded for their personal contributions to the development of SCO RATS activities and strengthening cooperation.
The chairmanship of the SCO RATS Council was transferred from Pakistan to the Russian Federation.
It was agreed that the next meeting of the SCO RATS Council would be held at the premises of the Executive Committee of SCO RATS in Tashkent.
