Suthra Punjab intensifies cleaning, Anti-Smog drive in Rawalpindi
RAWALPINDI, Sep 13 (APP):Suthra Punjab Agency Rawalpindi has intensified cleaning operations across the city as part of efforts to curb smog and ensure a cleaner environment, with manual and mechanical sweeping, scraping of soil from roadsides and green belts, and day-and-night washing of roads and markets being carried out.
Alongside the sanitation drive, the agency’s communication teams are conducting an extensive public awareness campaign.
Teams are visiting different areas and meeting residents, shopkeepers and business owners, urging them not to burn waste, avoid dumping garbage in open spaces and cooperate with sanitation workers.
Citizens are also being informed about fines and legal penalties for burning waste and spreading litter.
Awareness pamphlets are being distributed, while residents are being provided information about the sanitation helpline 1139 and other channels for lodging complaints.
The communication teams have highlighted that burning garbage contributes to air pollution and smog and urged citizens to hand over waste to sanitation staff instead.
Door-to-door awareness campaigns at schools, markets and residential areas are also being conducted to encourage students, traders and residents to play their role in maintaining cleanliness and protecting the environment.
In markets, shopkeepers are being provided with waste bins and educated about proper waste disposal and the importance of waste segregation.
Meanwhile, Suthra Punjab Agency Rawalpindi Managing Director (MD) Rana Sajid Safdar visited Khayaban-e-Sir Syed to inspect the ongoing sanitation operation. He met sanitation workers, reviewed their performance and issued instructions to further improve cleaning standards.
The MD also met local residents and listened to their sanitation-related complaints and suggestions. Speaking to citizens, Rana Sajid Safdar said cleanliness was not solely the responsibility of the sanitation agency but a shared responsibility of every citizen.
He urged residents to dispose of waste at designated points instead of throwing or burning it on roads and in streets, stressing that public participation could make sanitation operations more effective and sustainable.
Rana Sajid Safdar and local residents expressed their resolve to work together to make Rawalpindi a zero-waste, smog-free and dengue-free city through mutual cooperation and a shared sense of responsibility.
