Illegal sheesha cafés sealed as crackdown on violations intensifies in DIKhan
Dera Ismail Khan , Sep 13 (APP):Assistant Commissioner Dera Ismail Khan Dr Muhammad Hamid Siddiq conducted late-night raids against illegal sheesha clubs in different parts of the city, launched a crackdown on overcharging transporters and traffic violations, and inspected the Basic Health Unit (BHU) Shorkot to review healthcare facilities and preparations for a telemedicine centre.
On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Dera Ismail Khan, the assistant commissioner raided several sheesha clubs operating illegally in the city. During the operation, multiple establishments were sealed and hookahs and other related equipment found there were confiscated.
The assistant commissioner said that protecting the younger generation from drugs and other activities harmful to public health was among the top priorities of the district administration. He said strict action would continue against elements involved in illegal activities without discrimination and that no leniency would be shown to violators.
In another operation, Dr Muhammad Hamid Siddiq, accompanied by the Secretary Regional Transport Authority and Deputy Superintendent of Police Traffic, conducted a crackdown on transporters charging fares above the officially approved rates, as well as vehicles using pressure horns and high-beam lights on Bannu Road. Around 25 vehicles were challaned during the operation, while some drivers allegedly involved in overcharging passengers were arrested and legal proceedings were initiated against them.
Several out-of-district passenger vehicles were also checked, and challans and other legal action were taken against those found violating traffic rules. Transporters and drivers were directed to prominently display the officially approved fare list on their vehicles. Passengers were also refunded any excess fare collected from them on the spot.
The assistant commissioner further directed that bus stand managers should not allow any vehicle to leave without displaying the official fare list. He warned that vehicles found violating the directives would be impounded and handed over to the police for further legal action, while the concerned bus stand managers were also summoned to the relevant office.
Meanwhile, Dr Muhammad Hamid Siddiq visited BHU Shorkot and reviewed the availability of medicines, attendance of medical staff, cleanliness arrangements and healthcare facilities being provided to patients.
He directed the concerned staff to ensure timely and quality medical treatment for patients and said negligence in staff attendance, availability of medicines and cleanliness arrangements would not be tolerated.
The assistant commissioner also reviewed arrangements and available resources for establishing an “Umeed-e-Sehat Telemedicine Centre” at BHU Shorkot in accordance with the directives of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. He inspected the designated room, electricity supply, internet connectivity and other essential facilities required for the centre.
He directed the relevant authorities to complete all necessary arrangements for making the telemedicine initiative fully functional so that residents of remote areas could benefit from online consultations with specialist doctors and receive improved healthcare services at their doorstep.
The assistant commissioner said that strict enforcement would continue against overcharging, pressure horns, high-beam lights and other violations, while efforts would also be made to improve the delivery of essential public services and healthcare facilities across the district.
