A city-wide “general hold-up” enforcement drive has been conducted today in Lahore against motorcyclists riding without helmets, with Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi warning that no motorcycle will be allowed to enter the city without the rider wearing a helmet.
General hold-up conducted against helmetless motorcyclists across city
LAHORE, Sep 13 (APP):A city-wide “general hold-up” enforcement drive has been conducted today in Lahore against motorcyclists riding without helmets, with Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi warning that no motorcycle will be allowed to enter the city without the rider wearing a helmet.
According to police sources, a crackdown is being carried out on major arteries, including Mall Road, Jail Road, Canal Road, and Main Boulevard Road. The CTO has ordered SPs and DSPs to deploy special teams at all entry points to the city.
CTO Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi stated that motorcyclists were directly or indirectly involved in 139 fatal accidents this year, with motorcyclists accounting for 71 percent of those involved in such deadly crashes. According to him, head injuries are the primary cause of death in these accidents.
He emphasized that the goal of strict enforcement is not to generate revenue but to save citizens’ lives. Out of 8.2 million registered vehicles in city alone, more than 6.1 million are motorcycles.
According to the CTO, the helmet enforcement campaign has resulted in a 40 percent reduction in head trauma incidents; however, there is a need for further reduction. He urged that citizens should wear helmets for their own safety, not out of fear of a traffic fine.
Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi stated that helmet use and lane discipline guarantee safe travel for citizens.
