MULTAN, Sep 13 (APP):The Unaccounted for Gas (UFG) Control Task Force of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) intensified its ongoing crackdown against gas theft, illegal usage, and technical violations, disconnecting 30 gas meters across the region during a one-week operation.
According to official weekly performance figures released here, the task force inspected 440 locations across various areas of the city to curb gas utility violations and restore system pressure.
During the drive, 11 meters were disconnected for the illegal use of compressors, including nine in prior operations and two during the latest campaign. Authorities removed illegal extensions at six locations and disconnected four meters found installed upside down.
Furthermore, three meters were disconnected for illegal commercial usage, two for unauthorized shifting, and two upon the request of consumers. One meter was disconnected for being located far beyond the designated service area, while one case involved direct gas theft without a meter.
Officials of the UFG Control Task Force stated that the ongoing operations aimed to eliminate gas theft, restore system pressure, address public grievances promptly, and ensure uninterrupted and safe gas supply to legitimate consumers across the region.
Meanwhile, the SNGPL General Manager, Multan, emphasized that the safety of consumers and the protection of their lives and property remained the top priority of the organization. He urged consumers to check for gas smells before operating any appliances.
In case of a gas leak or smell, the General Manager advised consumers to immediately open all doors and windows and refrain from operating any electrical or gas appliances.
He reiterated that strict and indiscriminate legal action against gas theft and other unauthorized activities would continue to maintain safe and quality service delivery for all consumers.
