KARACHI, Sep 11 (APP):Sindh Minister for Home and Law Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar conducted surprise visits to several police stations in the city and ordered the suspension of multiple officers and personnel for violating police rules.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab accompanied the provincial Home Minister during the visits, said a news release on Friday.
Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar began his inspections at Ferozabad Police Station, where he examined various sections of the station, lock-up and other arrangements. He also spoke to citizens present at the station about their problems and complaints against the police and directed the concerned officers to address their grievances promptly and provide them maximum possible relief.
He also inquired from detainees in the lock-up about the conduct of police personnel and facilities being provided to them.
The Home Minister stressed the need to ensure attendance of police officers and personnel at police stations and performance of duties in uniform. He said performing duty without uniform would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
During the surprise inspection, he ordered the suspension of the SIO of Ferozabad Police Station for violating police rules.
At Aziz Bhatti Police Station, the minister ordered the suspension of the SHO and other staff over violations of police rules.
During his inspection of Shahrah-e-Faisal Police Station, he ordered the suspension and demotion of the SHO and suspension of other staff for violating police rules.
The SHO of Defence Police Station was also suspended following a violation of police rules during the minister’s visit.
At Darakhshan Police Station, the SIO was suspended, while details were sought regarding six other personnel over alleged violations.
Zia Lanjar said the primary responsibility of the police was to serve the public, protect the lives and property of citizens and ensure prompt provision of justice.
He directed that police conduct towards citizens be improved and their complaints addressed without delay.
The Minister said negligence, dereliction of duty or any lapse in the performance of police duties would not be tolerated. He added that no monopoly or arbitrary practices would be allowed in the functioning of police stations and all personnel, regardless of rank or position, would have to work strictly in accordance with law and rules.
He said he would continue making surprise visits to police stations and directed all officers and personnel to perform their responsibilities diligently and ensure complete compliance with police rules.
