Workers welfare grants worth Rs380m being distributed across Punjab
LAHORE, Sep 09 (APP):Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resource Muhammad Manshaullah Butt distributed welfare grant cheques worth Rs21.5 million among registered workers at a ceremony held here on Wednesday.
Commissioner Social Security Zulfiqar Ali Kharal, Director General Labour Welfare Syeda Kulsoom Hai and Secretary Workers Welfare Fund Dr Mujtaba Bharwana were also present.
The minister was informed that a total of 3,649 cheques amounting to Rs380 million were being distributed across Punjab under the heads of Death Grant, Marriage Grant and Talent Scholarship.
On the occasion, Muhammad Manshaullah Butt said improving the quality of life of workers and their families was among the government’s top priorities. Under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, he said, comprehensive measures were being taken to provide better facilities and social protection to workers.
He said workers were playing a vital role in the national economy and industrial development, adding that ensuring their welfare was not only the government’s responsibility but also its commitment.
The minister said comprehensive measures were also being taken for the education, health and better future of workers’ children. He said 73 schools had been established for workers’ children, while scholarships were also being provided to deserving students pursuing medical education. He said the upgradation of Social Security hospitals was also progressing rapidly to improve healthcare facilities for workers and their families.
The minister further said that Social Security Hospital Sialkot had been expanded from 50 to 100 beds, which would significantly enhance healthcare capacity for registered workers in the area.
