Punjab fully prepared to deal with flood emergencies: Salman Rafique

LAHORE, Sep 09 (APP):Punjab Minister for Health and Chairman Cabinet Committee for Disaster Management Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that water flow in the rivers is normal and the administration is fully prepared to deal with any emergency situation.
He expressed these views during his visit to the Provincial Emergency Center at the PDMA Head Office here on Wednesday. On the occasion, DG PDMA Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa briefed the provincial minister on the latest situation regarding the monsoon season and water flow in the rivers.
Khawaja Salman Rafique said that, in line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab, comprehensive measures were being taken to protect the province from floods. He said Rescue 1122 had been equipped with modern equipment worth billions of rupees, while pre-disaster and post-disaster response mechanisms were also being made more effective.
The provincial minister said the measures would help prevent and effectively deal with floods and other water-related hazards. He added that PDMA’s preparations this year were much better than those made last year.
DG PDMA Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa said that the monsoon situation and river flows were being continuously monitored. He said Tarbela Dam was currently 100 percent full, while Mangla Dam was 78 percent full.
