CUI hosts ‘Frames of Freedom’ photography exhibition
ISLAMABAD, Sep 09 (APP):A photography exhibition titled “Frames of Freedom”, featuring more than 50 exhibits celebrating Pakistan’s cultural heritage, historic architecture, natural landscapes, people, traditions and everyday life, was organized at the Art Gallery of COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) on Wednesday.
Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of National Heritage and Culture Farah Naz Akbar inaugurated the exhibition, which presented diverse visual perspectives on Pakistan and seeks to celebrate the country’s national spirit while encouraging reflection on the relationship between people, places, memory and identity.
Speaking on the occasion, Farah Naz Akbar appreciated the university’s efforts for providing a platform to celebrate Pakistan’s cultural and natural heritage through photography and commended the participating photographers for their creativity and distinctive perspectives.
She said there is a need to promote a soft image of Pakistan and channel the talent of youth towards capturing the country’s heritage and rich culture for future generations.
Speaking on the occasion, Rector CUI Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar appreciated the photographers’ efforts for presenting compelling visual interpretations of Pakistan.
He observed that photography could transcend documentation to become a powerful medium for creative expression, reflection and cultural dialogue.
He emphasized the important role of universities in fostering artistic creativity, intellectual inquiry and meaningful engagement with cultural heritage, and congratulated the photographers for presenting a thoughtful visual celebration of Pakistan.
The exhibition featured works by Fida Muhammad, Khurram Bhatti, Meezan Ali Mir, Muhammad Asad Ali, Muhammad Junaid, Raheela Mushtaq, Saima Salahuddin (Aimon), Sohaina Elia, Suriyya Choudhary and Tahmeena Javaid Adeel.
Coming from diverse academic backgrounds, the photographers brought individual approaches shaped by observation, experience, inquiry and creative expression.
Curated by Farrah Mahmood Rana, “Frames of Freedom” placed particular emphasis on spaces, architecture and nature, exploring the relationship between Pakistan’s built and natural environments.
The exhibition will remain open to visitors until September 30 at the COMSATS Art Gallery.
