Oil production from fields in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak and Lakki Marwat districts increased by about 16% during 2025-26, while gas output rose nearly 20%, driven largely by a sharp surge in production from the Makori Deep field.
Karak, Lakki Marwat oil output rises 16%, gas production 20% in 2025-26
ISLAMABAD, Sep 09 (APP):Oil production from fields in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak and Lakki Marwat districts increased by about 16% during 2025-26, while gas output rose nearly 20%, driven largely by a sharp surge in production from the Makori Deep field.
According to year-wise production data available with Wealth Pakistan, the five fields covered in the data produced a combined 6.73 million barrels of oil in 2025-26, up from 5.78 million barrels in 2024-25, an increase of about 16.4%.
Gas production rose by about 19.7% to 72,126.32 million cubic feet during 2025-26 from 60,265.44 million cubic feet a year earlier. The figures cover fields operated by the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and MOL in Karak and Lakki Marwat.
Among the fields, OGDCL’s Nashpa field in Karak remained the largest oil producer during 2025-26, contributing 3.73 million barrels. Its output recovered from 3.41 million barrels in 2024-25 but remained below the 3.95 million barrels recorded in 2023-24.
MOL’s Makori East field in Karak was the second-largest oil producer, with output of 1.99 million barrels in 2025-26, compared with 2.04 million barrels in 2024-25 and 2.75 million barrels in 2023-24.
The most significant increase came from MOL’s Makori Deep field in Karak, where oil production jumped to 0.77 million barrels in 2025-26 from just 0.01 million barrels in the preceding year. The field had produced 0.08 million barrels in 2023-24.
OGDCL’s Bettani field in Lakki Marwat produced 0.23 million barrels of oil during 2025-26, down from 0.30 million barrels a year earlier and 0.34 million barrels in 2023-24.
MOL’s Manzalai field in Karak produced 0.01 million barrels during 2025-26, compared with 0.03 million barrels in 2024-25 and 0.04 million barrels in 2023-24.
A similar trend was recorded in gas production. Nashpa remained the largest gas producer among the five fields, with output rising to 33,152.48 million cubic feet in 2025-26 from 27,121.58 million cubic feet in the preceding year.
Makori East was the second-largest gas producer at 25,175.41 million cubic feet, marginally higher than 25,130.91 million cubic feet in 2024-25 but below the 28,647.26 million cubic feet recorded in 2023-24.
Makori Deep recorded the sharpest increase, with gas production surging to 8,695.09 million cubic feet in 2025-26 from only 115.09 million cubic feet a year earlier. Its gas output had stood at 912.74 million cubic feet in 2023-24.
Meanwhile, gas production from Bettani declined to 3,305.05 million cubic feet from 4,367.47 million cubic feet in 2024-25, while Manzalai’s output fell to 1,798.29 million cubic feet from 3,530.40 million cubic feet.
Despite the strong year-on-year recovery, aggregate production in 2025-26 remained below the levels recorded two years earlier.
The five fields had produced a combined 7.16 million barrels of oil and 74,852.08 million cubic feet of gas in 2023-24.
The figures show that the 2025-26 recovery was concentrated mainly in Makori Deep and Nashpa. While Makori Deep recorded a sharp increase in both oil and gas production and Nashpa also posted higher output, production from Bettani and Manzalai continued to decline, while Makori East remained broadly stable in gas output but recorded a slight fall in oil production.
